The waters have receded. The cameras are turned off and those not directly affected by the storms have moved on to the next big thing.

However the people affected directly by the most costly Hurricane to ever hit the North Carolina coast are still struggling to overcome their losses.

Healthy foods, shelter, reliable transportation, and the technology gap in communication have become top priorities as survivors endure the slow 3 to 5 year move along the road to recovery.

We are now at a completely new cross road. With the added threat of the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of people that need a helping hand-up, is increasing.

As savings and assistance benefits to rebuild run out, many find themselves stalled on the side of the road to recovery.

Assistance is out there... but the problem for many survivors is communication, finding help when it is available and not learning about it after it is gone.

Plus they must juggle staying above water financially and not sinking deeper in debt as they "recover"...  and on top of it all, is the threat from the Covid-19 virus.

The working units of Abundant Giving consist of survivors of past disasters working together as a team of volunteers in emergency, short term and long term recovery. We have seen and still see many important needs go unmet. We can no longer sand by and let others decide our fate. We are in need of a "HAND-UP" not a hand-out.

Abundant Giving is focusing and addressing two of the above top four needs that still face Florence survivors,Communication Education, and Food Insecurity. Both are at the root of many issues that affect more than just survivors of a disaster.
